Ooh, my first AATG thread! Over the weekend I watched Smokin' Aces and Dog Soldiers. Smokin' Aces - 2/10. Had a potentially good storyline but poorly executed. It was done in a wanky style like a typical Guy Ritchie gangster flick and too many pointless characters. Dog Soldiers - 7/10. Good humour and pretty original for a werewolf film. Also has one of the best dying lines ever: "I hope I give you the shits, you fucking wimp." |

Just re-watched The Unforgiven and Batman Begins on HD. Both 10/10 films for entirely different reasons. |
|||
| |||
Watched that Jodie Foster caper about losing her kid on the plane last night, and it was far and away the worst film I've seen for quite a number of years. |
|||
| |||
Erm... I think the last film I watched was Inside Man. Quite good, but stupidly easy to spot how they do it. |
|||

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, which is a nice little detective story with existential undertones, ruined to some extent by the pretension in the actual 'dialog'. Looks gorgeous, though. Lord of War, funny as anything but the pathos really works too. On top of my 'to watch' pile: Three Burials, X-Men III, Cars and Slither. |

Beerfest while drunk. How could it be bad? I don't know but oh my goodness it was awful. |
|||

Dawn of the Dead remake was on last night. Really enjoyed it, action-zombies FTW! Absolute gore-fest and they set the tone of the film right from the start. Easily stands as it's own film and can proudly sit next to the original. |

I do like horror comedies as a rule. Might watch that tonight, then. |

I agree with Roobs' score for Smokin' Aces. It was pish. Did think it looked quite pretty though. We so should have gone to see Rocky! |
|||

I watched Children of Men over the weekend. I was suprised that it was a brit-flick. Loved it, although I wasn't too impressed with the "keep you in suspenders" ending. [L] |

ilmaestro said:I do like horror comedies as a rule. Might watch that tonight, then. Then may I recommend a film called "Feast"? Saw this the other night. It was the last film made by Matt Damon's Greenlight Project (or "give a nobody a chance to make a film"). It's basically an American Dog Soldiers. A guy covered in blood bursts through the door of a roadhouse, puts an alien-esque head down on the bar and says "you've got two minutes until the shit hits the fan". Any film that introduces the cast with flashcards detailing their life expectancy is essential viewing as far as I'm concerned. NB: this post would be as just at home in the "shit movies you love" thread. |

THAT. SOUNDS. FUCKING. AWESOME. |
|||

repairmanjack: That does sound really cool. I might well give it a look. |

No time for films, I've been watching 24 episodes of Frasier in a week. Cheap boxsets ftw! |
|||
| |||
O_O I need to watch that, now. How have I never even heard of it. Edit - The feast, I've heard of Fraiser [MH] |

Can't get a link working for some reason. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0426459/ /expects a whole "half star of love" for this recommendation. |

"Tagline: They're Hungry. You're Dinner." /Sold -Rated R for pervasive strong creature violence and gore /sold, again Coach: Oh dear. Honey Pie: What? What's he doing? Bozo: They're humping! Beer Guy: Aw man! The monsters are doing it doggy style. Hot Wheels: Monster sex. /needs this film now I'm guessing it's not exactly going to be stocked at my local asda. Repair man - you'll get your star love after I watch the film. :) [L] |

It was an Xmas pressie from my partner. Had to get it via Amazon (R1 import only). There's another film of the same name - but you're not likely to confuse the two, are you? Couple of good trailers on youtube/videogoogle - which is how I found it in the first place. |

It's available from dvdpacific, if you want to go down my favored route for US DVDs. There also seems to be an HD-DVD version out at the end of March! |

Watched Black Rain again last night. Been yonks since I saw it last, and its actually a lot better than I remember! Michael Douglas with silly hair, Yakuza and Ridley Scott = cheesy goodness. |
|||
| |||
Oh blimey I went to see that at the cinema. Only good bit - Andy Garcia gets beheaded :) Peej |
|||
| |||
Weird about Michael Douglas being mentioned...I had a Romancing The Stone/Jewel Of The Nile double bill this weekend. Certainly two films that were of their time and dont have Indiana Jones style longevity. |
|||
| |||
Douglas is in the news again as I watched The Sentinel tonight. Nice little caper, bit obvious what was going on at times, but exciting enough. They kept on calling Kiefer Sutherland's character 'Dave' though, instead of Jack, which I found odd. And dah-ham is Eva Longoria hot to trot. |

Just about to watch You me and Dupree in a sec, although i have a feeling that i'll regret it. |
